Nike We Own The Night

On Saturday evening thousands of women owned the night in London's Victoria Park.

10,000 women lit up the night as they embarked on a 10k run around East London in Nike's We Own The Night female running event.

The preparations for the event were vast and we were there nice and early to see everything go up.

Nike provided goody bags for all of the finishers which contained all sorts of goodies from the sponsors of the event....everyone loves a good freebie!!

They also included a voucher for some bubbly which we will get to later.......

In the centre of the park was an Event Village which was created to add a festival feel and atmosphere.

The Event Village consisted of several tents and marquees hosted by Nike and Elle UK ensuring that each runner looked stylish and race ready.

Elle UK along with Nike also provided all runners with their race packs.

The packs included a 'Kiss My Race' Nike running top to be worn for the race, creating a sea of female runners in their matching tops.

Throughout the day we had a lot of time spent hanging around, which we spent wandering around the beautiful park.

And lucky for us, the sun stayed out for the majority of the day, forgetting the 20 minutes that we got caught in a torrential downpour!! Thankfully, we were provided with sexy ponchos to keep up dry as a bone!

I even managed to find my friend's name on the Nike board of runners taking part in 2014 (luckily it was alphabetical)!!

There were all sorts of food and refreshments available for the runners an their families and supporters in the event village.

Unfortunately Vita Coco took a bit of a hit from the wind and the conditions didn't quite fit their beachy, Hawaiian reputation!!

As it got closer to the event starting, runners began to unite in the event village ready for their Nike, pre-race warm up.

The atmosphere was electric and after 20 minutes of warming and psyching up, all of the athletes were in the zone and making their way to the start line.

The countdown began and a sea of blue t-shirts swarmed past the start line....

As the night got darker, the lights got brighter and the music continued. Women were crossing the finish line with huge smiles and it was a picture of relief and happiness!

As they made their way from the finish line to the event village, runners were flourished with endless bottles of water, goody bags and a bespoke Alex Monroe finisher necklace in an exclusive Liberty print box, signifying they had owned the night and could begin the celebrations with a well deserved glass of (free!) bubbly!

Then it was time for the real party to start....

BBC Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw led the after party on the main stage and kept the crowd on their tired feet!

The celebratory after party ensured the adrenaline of race day continued across the finish line and into the night!

While the champions celebrated so did the VIPS......

If you are looking for a new challenge and think running a 10k is just the thing for you, then check out the Nike We Own The Night Website and see which cities they will be travelling to next.
